23rd of Every Month: Ongoing Statewide Coordinated Action To End Solitary Confinement
See all locations here and share our event page on facebook!
SCATESC began March 23, 2015. Actions were and will be held in California from San Diego to Arcata and nationally. This date emphasizes the 23 or more hours every day that people are kept in solitary confinement in 7 x 11 foot concrete cells.
NOW is the time to stand with this leadership, those suffering in solitary confinement. There has been recent retaliation by the state prison guard union (CCPOA) after the September 1st historic legal settlement won by several survivors of years of extreme isolation. The recent legal victory has brought with it new oppressive actions by the prison authorities! Honor the courage of those who continue to wage a nonviolent fight for their human rights at great harm to themselves.
HRPP is inspired by the PBSP-SHU Short Corridor Collective Human Rights Movement which in November 2013 stated: “We want to consider the idea of designating a certain date each month as Prisoner Rights Day…our supporters would gather in locations throughout California to expose CDCR’s actions and rally support efforts to secure our rights.”
